Christen Slaughter is a Chicago-based producer and filmmaker, archival researcher, and storyteller dedicated to preserving Black stories and history through film.

She is currently a 2026 Diverse Voices in Documentary Fellow at Kartemquin Films, where she is developing Messages from the Mic, an archival documentary chronicling the legacy of legendary Chicago broadcaster Richard Steele. Through this work, she collaborates with historians, archivists, journalists, and community members to uncover and preserve stories that might otherwise be lost.

Christen earned her B.A. in Economics from Spelman College with a minor in Documentary Filmmaking. Her background spans documentary production, film programming, archival research, and project coordination.

She believes film is more than a medium for storytelling, it is a tool for cultural preservation, public memory, and community building.
